I have been getting the same error as Michael. I tried today's from your link (1.4.1.dev on 2014-05-29 3:00 PM EDT), and I am still getting the error.

Sorry for the misleading comments, my local checkout was not clean as it contained the logstash-contrib addition, that is fixing the issue as mentioned in LOGSTASH-2004.
So the current workaround is to install the contrib plugin

Confirmed in 1.4.1,
It is already fix in master, so it should come up in the next bugfix release 1.4.2
