As discussed on #logstash, creating a deb artefact as part of the build process, targeting Ubuntu 12.04 at first, would help with the following:
The jar would be unpacked to /opt/logstash (or similar). An unpacked jar is much faster than a packed one.
Providing a simple upstart config would allow `service logstash start` or similar to be used
Providing binary wrappers would make executing portions of logstash (eg, the web ui) easier.
