Consider allowing date format macros to be used in file definitions. This is particularly handy if an input file is generated with a YYYYMMDD date component in the filename. A wildcard-input is not ideal in this case due to potentially large numbers of historical files in a given directory. Additionally, Windows prevents deletion of files that LogStash is reading which makes log purging difficult.
Example of how this might look:
