Lack of Log Rotation via Date

There appears to be a lack of ability to create file outputs that have log rotation via a date scheme. I'm seeing that there is code for log rotation based on file size (that isn't yet supported), but the scheme of ".1", ".2" doesn't seem preferential in an environment where we may want file output organized by date and time stamps. Would be kind of nice to have this.

I'd like to add this functionality myself if no one would mind me throwing it in as a patch.

Functionality already exists; instead, would like to add documentation for file output option to include additional information for the path option that highlights this ability.
